The Baby Boom Era (1950s)
The Baby Boom Era means massive number of births in the 1950s, there are more than 8.2 million babies were born, which makes up Canada's half of the population during that period. It was also one of the largest population increases in Canadian history. This boom happened because a lot of Canadian soldiers returned from the Second World War, and the economy was so good, and more social programs and jobs made it easier for families to grow and make money. The boom changed Canadian society: schools were overcrowded in the 1950s, suburbs expanded a lot, etc.

Cold War (1945-1989)

The Cold War was a period of political tension between the United States and the Soviet Union from 1945 to 1989. Instead of fighting directly, the two fought through nuclear arms buildup, propaganda, and influence over other nations, like Korea War and Vietnam War. Canadians lived under the threat of nuclear war, while US and all NATO members and the Warsaw Pact divided countries into opposing sides.
The Korean war (1950-1953)
The Korean War (1950–1953) started when North Korea attacked South Korea, started a major conflict with UN forces (the United States and other UN countries like Canada). During the war more than 26,000 Canadians served on land, at sea, and in the air. Canadian soldiers fought in difficult battles like the Battle Kapyong and the the battle Hill 355. The war ended on 27 July 1953, but no peace treaty was ever signed, leaving North and South Korea technically still at war even now. In total, 516 Canadians died. The Korean War, often called “the Forgotten War,” in Canada because no one really talk about it now days.
Vietnam War (1961- 1975)


The Vietnam War was a long and deadly war fought between communist North Vietnam supported by the Soviet Union and China and South Vietnam, supported by the United States. The war caused a lot of destruction and casualties between those 2 major powers and their allies. Around the world, there were a lot of war protests in the United States and other different counties. The war ended in 1975 when North Vietnam captured Saigon, the capital of South Vietnam, that is why now Vietnam is under communist rule
