Biology

The scientific study of life and living organisms.

Genotype and phenotype

Genotype

Genotype is the specific combination of alleles.—  (versions of a gene) it is from its organism's  parents. Genotypes are stored in DNA, but you can't see it directly; they remain the same throughout an organism’s life. For example, a purple pea plants genotype could be RR.

Phenotype

The phenotype is an organism’s physical expression, like appearance, behavior, or physiological traits. This includes things like eye color, height, or blood type. For example, a purple pea plants phenotype is purple flowers.

Homozygous & Heterozygous

Homozygous organisms have 2 same(identical) alleles, homo from Ancient Greek means the same. Heterozygous alleles  have two different alleles, hetero in Ancient Greek means different.  For example, a purple pea plant with genotype RR and a white pea plant with genotype rr are both homozygous. Purple plants with genotype Rr are heterozygous
